petrolhead Jul 19, 2005:
Jeeli przebywasz w wizieniu to jeste "imprisoned", a jeeli jeste "w innym miejscu odosobnienia, to jeste "interned", ewentualnie moe byc te "detained"
petrolhead Jul 19, 2005:
Ale oczywicie, e pasuje:
"... term (period/duration) of imprisonment or internment without a (court) sentence for ...."
Angielski jest tak cudownie zwizy :-)
Non-ProZ.com Jul 19, 2005:
z tym ze w moim kontekscie imprisonment nie pasuje, gdyz cale zdanie brzmialo: okres przebywania w wiezieniach lub innych miejscach odosobnienia... czyli pewnie: period of being in prisons or other isolated places...
Non-ProZ.com Jul 19, 2005:
dziekuje bardzo za pomoc :)
A.G. Jul 19, 2005:

Non-ProZ.com Jul 19, 2005:
moze tak being in prison without having been sentenced for political or religious activity related to the fight for sovereignty and independence?

Polish term (edited): wyrok za dziaalno polityczn lub religijn

period of false imprisonment or internment for political or religious activities...

Continued: ...linked to the struggle for self-determination and independence.

Petrolhead is right about internment, I think, but I have translated the whole sentence as it makes a difference. It all depends on whether 'bez wyroku' refers to 'okres przebywania w wiezieniach' or to 'za dzialanosc polityczna...' The second works better gramatically but the first makes much more sense when you think about it. The end of the sentence is still a bit awkward. In English, just having 'the struggle for independence' would sound better.

\'Detained\' isn\'t right in the context as it suggests a short period. Police _detain_ suspects for questioning, i.e. a few hours.
