Anna, masz rację z sensem zdania. Sytuacja z twojego pytania: "mieć i zjeść" nie jest problemem.

Na moje oko autor zmienił kolejność części zdania. W oryginalnym porzekadle chodzi o to, co zrobić, żeby zjeść ciastko, ale wciąż mieć to samo ciastko. Dopiero tutaj jest problem.

Na wszelki wypadek zapytaj autora, czy na pewno napisał to, co miał zamiar napisać.

The phrase is, of course, illogical, in that it is easy to have a cake and eat it. The other way is a bit more challanging. An equivalent idiom is "to have it both ways." Like Marie Antoinette once said, "Let them eat cake." (Actually, she never said it.)

A nie myślicie, że lepsze by było "to eat a cake and (still) have it"? W sumie chyba autor zdania wyjściowego pomylił kolejność, ale raczej to oddaje lepiej jego intencje. Whatcha think?
