just now, but this can change with one big project - there are at least 6 clients that can potentially rise to the top.

My biggest clients are all international organizations. Most of them are based in the U.S., though they are 3 hours ahead of me.

Like Muriel, my biggest clients are all international organizations. In general, my Portuguese clients are very occasional (I have a reputation of being expensive…), with one exception: I deal directly with the Portuguese branch of an American specialty interventional therapies company, but I invoice the head office in Germany…

I do not have a "bigest client". I always make sure that everything is well spread so that when the one drops, it can be caught by one of the others.
But other than that, all of my customers are based in Europe.

All of them are local since I can go and visit them in the (highly unlikely) event that they don't pay.

I am in negotiations with a few companies based overseas but they are dangling the proverbial carrot so I'm really in two minds as to if I am going to bite and take the bait. FYI, it's always the overseas customers who approach me with the lure of 'potential' projects. At least the customers here contact me with real, actual work.

They are mostly local offices of foreign companies and their representatives or referrals.

But has gone global. The company started out in Spain roughly 20 years ago and now has offices in several countries in Latin America and Europe, and clients in more than 65 around the world.

No local clients at all Apr 30, 2017

I purposefully avoid local clients as they underpay translators compared to the international market.

No local clients from my beautiful country. Nadie es profeta en su tierra = Nobody is a prophet in his/their own land.

Local, what else? Apr 30, 2017

Given the taxes and insurance I have to pay in Germany, I don't see how I could survive if my biggest client were outside Europe, or even in France for example. Most agencies outside Germany/Northern Europe offer ridiculous rates.

That is the price you have to pay for living in a first-world country.

This is the advantage of living in a third-world country.

Same here. Until the local clients show some respect for the profession, they'll have to do without me.
