Average? No idea! I take a new client if I’m available and he/she accepts my rates and other terms. I haven’t been seeking new clients for a while. I’m quite happy with the bunch of customers I have: interesting projects paid at my rates and on my conditions.

I don't really know how many on average. This year I've had 3 new clients so far, and that's rather exceptional. I've also had years without any new client. The only thing I know for sure is that I have extremely loyal clients who have made it possible the past 18 years to keep on working without ever having to actively look for new ones.

But if they accept my conditions and if I'm available, I will never say no to a new client who seems to be trustworthy. As a translator first come

But if they accept my conditions and if I'm available, I will never say no to a new client who seems to be trustworthy. As a translator first come, first served will be my motto forever. Together with my willingness to adopt new translation technology, it probably brought me in the good place I still am right now.

I highlight company names of new clients in my assignment overview, and count 14 so far this year. Some are one-offs and others recurring.

I haven’t had anyone new for a couple of years. I wouldn’t want a constant stream of new clients. I much prefer regulars. You can do a better job when you know their business well and when you know their people.

"Average? No idea!"... "I don't really know how many on average"...

If you don't know how many clients you've worked with, then yes, you can't know. Sounds like you've lost all your data, which is a pity.
(Although, of course, it's not really that useful, except for answering Proz polls)

I've worked with 460 clients in a bit less than 28 years, which means one new client every 23,3 days. It seems rather a lot, because over the past five years the average has gone

I've worked with 460 clients in a bit less than 28 years, which means one new client every 23,3 days. It seems rather a lot, because over the past five years the average has gone down to one every three months, and that's what I'm used to now.

The year with the most new clients was 2007 with one every 11.1 days and the full year with the least was 2020, with only two new clients, so one every six months. So far this year I'm at 1 in 10 months, and I wouldn't be surprised if it stayed at 1 new client for the whole year.

I'm aiming for zero next year
