Source text - Spanish Observó el lugar, sintiéndose confusa, planteándose de nuevo si estaba en un sueño. La luz era aún muy débil y una niebla espesa y blanquecina velaba el paisaje, como si fantasmas translucidos se deslizasen sobre la tierra húmeda. El silencio era absoluto, parecía que Rahu había sido el único ser vivo que habitaba con ella ese paraje perdido y ahora la había abandonado. Tenía que estar soñando, los gatos no se comportaban así, los bosques no podían parecer tan vivos y a la vez tan muertos.
El sonido de una campana quebró el silencio, haciendo que una bandada de pájaros saliese disparada de las copas de los árboles, llenando el cielo de saetas negras. Laura buscó con la mirada la procedencia del sonido. Debía ser el campanario de la iglesia, pero en los días que llevaba allí era la primera vez que la oía, así que no podía estar dando las horas. El sonido continuaba, repetitivo, pero sin seguir ningún ritmo ni formar ninguna melodía, caótico. Se preguntó qué estarían anunciando. Producía una extraña sensación de desasosiego, como si avisará de algún peligro. Se planteó que podían estar pidiendo ayuda por algo, quizá algún incendio. Se había dejado llevar por las teorías de Ander sin plantearse que podría haber algún pirómano por los alrededores que quizá había incendiado otra casa mientras los ocupantes estaban durmiendo. Entró en el bosque corriendo y cruzó el puente a toda la velocidad que le permitían sus piernas. La iglesia apareció entre los árboles, su alto campanario difuso tras la niebla.
Translation - English She looked around, feeling confused, once again wondering if she was in a dream. The light was still weak and the thick, white fog covered the landscape like translucent specters sliding over the damp earth. The silence was absolute. It seemed like Rahu had been the only other living being that inhabited the solitary landscape with her, and now he's abandoned her. She had to be dreaming. Cats didn't behave that way; forests couldn't appear to be so alive and dead at the same time.
The sound of a bell broke through the silence, causing a flock of birds to take flight from the treetops, filling the sky with arrows. Laura looked for the source of the sound. It must have come from the church's bell tower, but it was the first time she'd heard it since she'd arrived. It couldn't be used to mark the time. The sound continued, repetitive, but without rhythm nor melody, chaotic. She wondered what they were tolling it for. It produced in her a strange sense of unease, like it was a warning. She thought that they could be sounding the bell because of an emergency, maybe a fire. She'd believed Ander's theories without considering that there might be a pyromaniac on the loose who could have started another house fire while the occupants were still asleep. She ran into the forest and crossed the bridge as fast as her legs could take her. The church appeared between the trees, the tall bell tower obscured by the fog.

Source text - English Vierra winced awake and noticed she was lying on an opening that led inside the cliff. Underneath her, she could feel the cold surface of the rock, and behind her twinkled the bare, star-filled sky. Forward, somewhere in the depths of the corridor, she could see a fluttery gleam of light. Vierra got up and approached it cautiously. Soon the corridor opened up into a big cave. In the middle was a fire, and behind the flames was the Mother. She stood facing the wall, away from Vierra, painting the wall with a color as red as blood. The huge walls of the cave were covered in pictures of men, animals, and life. There were the deer, the salmon, and the moose, the most important game for the Kainu. Amid them were the gallant wolf, bear, and wolverine. The entire history of the tribe was painted on the walls. Somewhere they hunted, somewhere they loved, here and there the children ran around playfully. The gloom of the fire made the wall paintings flicker and overlap. Some showed battles against men or beasts, in which the red paint looked the most like blood. The changing light made one picture disappear, only to reveal another one beneath it. In turn, this one also disappeared and made way for a third. The movement of the lively flame made Vierra doubt her eyes, and she blinked furiously to clear them.
Translation - Spanish Vierra hizo una mueca de dolor al despertar y se dio cuenta de que estaba acostada enfrente de una entrada que conducía hacia el interior del acantilado. Debajo de ella podía sentir la fría superficie de la roca, y detrás de ella titilaba el cielo descubierto, lleno de estrellas. Bio
Born in Guatemala and raised in the US, I am a native speaker of both English and Spanish. My background is in oil and gas, where I have a Master's degree in Geophysics focused on exploration and development of oil fields. I worked in the oil and gas sector for government entities, small operators, and service companies in both Guatemala and Mexico for 14 years, and have extensive knowledge of the terminology associated with the geoscience and petroleum engineering aspects of the upstream oil and gas sector.
I've always had a love of languages and literature, and creating a bridge between the English and Spanish speaking worlds i lived in was something I have always worked towards, which is why I started translating. My area of expertise is oil and gas, of course, where I help oil and gas professionals facilitate the flow of information in English or Spanish to their teams, clients, or peers by means of fast, reliable, and accurate translations of their technical and business documents. I've worked on drilling programs and reserves reports, geological/geophysical descriptions, reservoir characterization reports, proposals and presentations for several different kinds of projects for companies like Halliburton and Ryder Scott.
I also do literary translations, where I introduce readers to new worlds and new experiences in English or Spanish through creative literary translations that showcase the author's voice. I have 14 published translations on the market so far, with more to come. The books I have translated range in topics from science fiction to romance to self-help and how-to.
