I can barely manage to send a text message on my rubbish Huawei phone. There is something wrong with the keypad. I've had a couple of more tech savvy friends try to disable the predictive text option and neither of them has been successful. I really dislike predictive text, and prefer to write my own messages, thanks very much. However, nine times out of 10 when you touch a button on the keypad, all the other buttons around it seem to be activated as well. I thought it might be because I have bi... However, nine times out of 10 when you touch a button on the keypad, all the other buttons around it seem to be activated as well. I thought it might be because I have big fat sausage fingers, but the people trying to fix it for me don't, so apparently it's not me being clumsy or stupid, but the phone itself. In fact, I would be more likely to use a hammer on this ***¿?**!* phone! ▲ Collapse | | | Xanthippe France Local time: 06:33 Member (2008) Italian to French + ... SITE LOCALIZER
I've installed the Memsource app on my phone. When working on Memsource projects, the app is very usefull. I can validate segments, or change them, and I can also dictate using the microphone of my phone. But I couldn't use it all the time because it's still very basic.

I used the Memsource app. I installed it on my phone and my tablet. | | | Mario Freitas Brazil Local time: 01:33 Member (2014) English to Portuguese + ...
And I cannot believe people use phones to work in translations! | | | no, for two reasons | Dec 14, 2019 |
I don't use CAT tools. Until this summer, the only thing my phone did was go "ring ring" until I answered it - then I heard a voice at the other end.

While I can't imagine such a scenario (having no tablet or laptop), one with a relatively modern smartphone can telecast the video to a monitor/projector and plug-in a micro-USB/bluetooth keyboard or use dictation, yet running a web-based CAT might seem alright for a very short and very urgent project--but not for long... I somewhat feel for those who really must use a 5" gadget for translation though | | | sazo Croatia Local time: 06:33 Member German to Croatian + ...
and I won't install any CAT on my phone.
No. However, now that we are talking about it, I am interested to test it out and see how it can become useful for me in the future.

ProZ.com Staff wrote: Have you used a CAT solution on your phone? The main reason why I have not, is because my CAT tools all require Windows. But if that weren't the case, then I would have considered using a CAT tool on my phone as long as I could connect it to an external monitor, an external keyboard and an external mouse. One might ask: if you're going to carry around all those other things, why not just carry a laptop, but: a portable monitor, a roll-up or fold-up keyboard, and a small mouse would weigh much less than a laptop and take up far less space in e.g. the train. You can even get docking stations for some phones that you can connect these peripherals to. After all, a smartphone is nothing more than a very powerful computer that is generally used without peripherals. | | | Châu Nguyễn Vietnam Local time: 11:33 Member (2012) English to Vietnamese + ... So far, I am aware of two CATs with mobile capability, which are Memsource and Smartcat. I tried Memsource, it's rather counter-intuitive for me. I'm not using it. Smartcat, on the other hand, is a big hit. No app needed. It is a web-based CAT, so all you need is a smartphone (or whichever device) with a browser (Chrome is recommended) et voila, you can translate on the go just as you do on a computer.
