Translation and the specific field Apr 4, 2011

First, I graduated from an academy as a pharmacist, and second - as a translator. So now I specialize in pharmaceutical and medical translation. I finally managed to combine pharmacy and languages - and I'm happy about it.

This is an interesting topic! all my life everyone kept telling me I should have studied translation in college to make use of the languages I learnt in my youth travelling to different countries because of my father's diplomatic career...
I never wanted, I was in love with psychology and pedagogy...finally in my first job my boss would have me translate almost every document coming from Brazil and thus my translation career started....I am incredibly happy! Now I am studying literary translation and going pro on proz.com. I still teach in different universities subjects related to psychology, languages and culture, and have my own private psychological practice.
Couldn't be happier!

teaching then translation or vice vers??? Apr 4, 2011

Having started with translation studies, I never thought I could end up being a language teacher! After graduation and because of the lack of jobs, I started to think seriously about becoming an English teacher, especially that I've already had a B.A. in English. So, I got my language teacher certificate and was eventually an official high school teacher!!!
But the love of translation haunted me so much that I found myself resuming my freelance translating activities while teaching:)

Languages and linguistics Apr 5, 2011

My undergraduate degree is in languages. After I became a translator, I decided I wanted to understand how language ticks, so years later I went back to do graduate study in linguistics and ended up writing a Ph.D. dissertation on translation theory.

No translation and specific field combo? Jun 18, 2013

That is, specific field and translation studies rather than specific field and language studies.
