Web translation and Product description
Localization for Linguists
This module introduced me to various aspects of the localisation industry and provided me with the theoretical and practical skills to translate websites, software and documentation. I learned how to use a variety of software tools such as Omega T, SDL Trados, Catalyst, Notepad ++, and Kompozer.
Translation Technologies
This module introduced me to different CAT tools and how to use them. The CAT tools which I worked with were SDL Trados, Memsource, Wordfast, and MemoQ. Training in post-editing was also given.
Dissertation in Archaeology
My thesis had a strong historical and methodological component aimed at assessing types of microware features (pits, scratches) from ancient osteo-archaeological remains from Greece.
Achieved Skills
Planning and time management: by studying an area that was unknown to me, I was required to learn fast and efficiently.
Critical thinking: by contemplating different sources of literature and their results.
Decision-making: by choosing volunteers with the required skills for my volunteering project.
Problem-solving: as part of my undergraduate research dissertation I was required to identify the causes for dental diseases in Antiquity.
Work Experience
10/02/20- At the present- German tutor at the online platform MyTutor UK.
I have been teaching German and supporting students across all levels. I have also been delivering online exam preparation sessions for students who have been preparing themselves for their upcoming A-Level and GCSE exams.
01/10/2019- 05/02/2020 Product specialist German Sales and Export at Northern Drives and Controls, Manchester UK.
During the course of 5 months I was responsible for:
Selling and advising customers on different elevator drives.
Customer support throughout the order and delivery process
Translating marketing and merchandising material from EN-DE
Website translation from EN-DE
Creation of quotations and sending these to the customers
Translation of technical repair reports from EN-DE and DE-EN
Inbound and outbound calls.
02/2019-05/2019 German Teaching Assistant in the School of Languages and Cultures at the University of Sheffield
During the period mentioned above, I was responsible for delivering, organizing and managing two weekly German conversation classes. As part of the teaching, I was responsible for teaching, German grammar to first-year language students as well as to support them and monitor their improvements.
