فلو أن قومي أنطقتني رماحهم نطقت ولكن الرماح أجرت


يقول : لو أنهم قاتلوا لذكرت ذلك في شعري مفتخرا به ، ولكن رماحهم أجرتني فكأنها قطعت اللسان عن الافتخار بهم .

disappointed/betrayed

The poet is saying that because his people did not fight (raise their spears), they disappointed him, or betrayed his expectations of them, that he no longer can be proud of them as if they had cut off (or stabbed) his tongue.
