Arabic term

المادة 67\1

Arabic to English Law/Patents Law (general) Order of numbers
ٍShould this be translated Article 67/1 or 1/67? Incidentally the ST numbers are in Arabic but I can only type English numbers on my keyboard. TIA!

Ludina Sallam Apr 24, 2020:
I think it depends on the context. Is there any indication of other items so that you can know if they are talking about article 67. or article 1? It seems to me that each document can have it's own system for how they number their sections.

Article 1/67

The numbers remain the same if written in Arabic or English (Same characters). Issues appear when it is written in Hindi

Yes, it should be reversed.

I have checked it on my machine now and found that it keeps the same order in both Arabic and Hindi cases. Perhaps this depends on the MS-office version you are using. I am using Office 2016. I recommend you to use this structure in (1/67)
Note from asker:
The ST numbers are in Hindi (my apologies for not stating that clearly). So--does that affect your answer?
So, by reversed, you mean "Article 67/1"? or "Article 1/67"? Sorry--I am new to legal translation. Thank you!

4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "This was helpful although I finally decided, based on all the other numbers in the document, that it should be 67/1."

Article 67.1

It shall be Article 67.1

This is common as it means article 67 clause 1.

It will be better also to check the full text for confirming so.
