yes, most will say office...
clinic is very subjective...when I make appointments for my parents, the bigger medical groups ask you to make an appt at the \"clinic\", meaning at the doctor\'s office, with whichever physician is available...

re: referred...yes,good point, due to the legalistic nature of health insurance reimbursement, where a "referral" is required...a more formal term used by office personnel and medical staff

While I definitely agree that "office" would work just fine, I believe the Spanish would have read "consultorio" in that case (at least I have never heard of "consulta" meaning "consultorio". But they say, "live and learn".
I am suggesting "practice" as an alternative that would reflect that nuance.
