Arabic term

fii yawmi/yawmai ﻔﻲ ﻴﻮﻤﻲ

Arabic to English Other General / Conversation / Greetings / Letters Algerian usage
ﻋﺮﻔﺖ ﻔﻲ ﻴﻮﻤﻲ 20 ﺍﻠﯽ 30 ﺪﺴﻤﺑﺮ ﺍﺤﻮﺍﻝ ﺠﻮﻴﺔ ﺴﻴﺌﺔ

'Arafat fii yawmi/yawmai 20 illa 30 desember ahwaal jawiya saiya

This concerns a problem with a ship. The problem I have is with ﻔﻲ ﻴﻮﻤﻲ./fii yawmi/yawmai. The period from 20 to 30 December is obviously more than two days, although it could be a misunderstanding by the typist. Alternatively, in Algerian (legal) Arabic, could ﻔﻲ ﻴﻮﻤﻲ./fii yawmi/yawmai have the meaning of "daily", i.e. the same as "yawmiiyan", i.e. She experienced bad weather daily from 20 to December?

Many thanks to all in advance.

You can use "daily" here, as u said"from" "to or till" so it is specified here & translating what is said..

neutral Majed Jarrar : but if you consider it daily then it'll sounds very weak...

Don't agree, we say in Arabic:"تتعرض البلاد لموجة من أحوال الطقس السيئ، يومياً من 10 إلى 15 أكتوبر" So I can't see any weakness in the meaning..it is what we say in Arabic & in weather bulletin.+ it is trans. for what was said! Thanks
agree Sajjad Hamadani : “ اً ” must have been omittedاً

4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "This was difficult to judge. In my view the typo of "20" for "29" would have been the most logical solution, except that "20 to 30 December" occurs in the other documents in the set, making a simple typing error in one document less likely. In my view, "daily" is the most likely alternative, although "yawmiyyan" is obviously more common. Another factor is that this is taken from Algerian legal material, where the lawyers and judges seem to think in French, and then sometimes choose rather unusual Arabic terms which reflect that. In the end I wrote "From 20 to 30 December ..." and added a translator's footnote setting out the alternative readings discussed here. As always many thanks to everyone who participated in this request, which greatly helped to clarify the position for me."

في يوم كذا إلا كذا from ..... to

daily would be يوميا and is not what we usually use to say that it happened each day from one date to the other. I think it's just a typo or spelling mistakes as the Arabic word would pronounce Yaumai, because of حرف الجر في

throughout / daily

Apparently the typist made a mistake,

a) either intended to write 29 and 30 instead of 20 and 30. So the translation would be
She experienced bad whether conditions on both the 29th and 30th of December.

b) intended to write yawmiyyan. So the translation would be as you said
She experienced bad whether conditions daily from the 20th till the 30th of December.

but the first is much more probable, because it's just a typo of one letter (9 instead of 0)...
yawmiyyan wouldn't make much sense.

في يومِ

I think it is yawm + Kasra(i) (short vowel)
Nouns (Yawm) are Genitives after Prepositions (Fii)
