Promised-Gave his word-

To promise is to make a promise or to give a word,so simply to keep your word is also the same meaning of to promise.

I'm terribly sorry for mentioning that I'm a native speaker of English while I'm not,I live in Egypt and I'm a native speaker of Arabic, about the question, It's possible to use: I promise to=I will do,I always keep my word=I'm a man of my word, but the right meaning to the word is promised or gave his word.
Example sentence:

I promised late but I kept my word.

I always give my word and keep it.
