English term

manes cultus

English to Arabic Other History
The second is that the predominance of manes-cultus throughout ancient North Africa testifies to the existence of well-defined ideas of kinship ; ideas which could only have existed among a people which fully recognized some form of marriage by which blood-relationships could be easily traced.

I think it might be Latin.

Thank you Zahra...good luck
Randa Farhat Mar 2, 2013:
Thank you Nancy! This could be some similar concept. If the question is about Egypt, N.Africa, then those dead would probably be the old Egyptian gods. Another interesting point in the question is the (well-defined ideas of kinship), where the book of dead in Egyptian religion kept the names of the dead and their parents, this perhaps explains why the text says (by which blood-relationships could be easily traced). http://ar.wikipedia.org/wiki/كتاب_الموتى Still, this is an attempt to find out the meaning, not an answer.
Randa Farhat Mar 2, 2013:
Thank you Taha, but as you see, I did not offer any translation! I tried to help Zahraa with the 'meanings' of the two words as given in Collins Latin-English dictionary. The words, mans cultus, appear in some google books on Egypt precisely and their ancient cult/religion, and if you look further they appear in citation to carvings from Ancient Egypt.
Nancy Eweiss Mar 2, 2013:
You are right Randa about the English equivalent of the term. The worship of spirits or ghosts is known in ancient civilizations as "animism", you may like to check this link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Animism. There are several Arabic terms used to describe this cult, but the most forward in this case could be: عبادة أرواح الأسلاف/ عبادة أرواح الموتى

الحقيقة أن الرابط لا يحيليلني إلى صفحة محددة..... و لكن بعد البحث أجد إن الترجمتين صحيحتين...يحسم الإختيار بينهما موضوع النص نفسه و ما يقدمه من معلومة.،.،،و إن كنت لا أرى رابط بين أى من الترجمتين و باقى النص المتاح....و هنا يكون الإختيار للاستاذة زهراء صاحبة السؤال
Randa Farhat Mar 2, 2013:
Here's from Collins Latin dictionary, just to help, as I have no idea of the correct Arabic term:
Manes = ghosts, shades of the dead, the lower world, bodily remains, الأموات، الرفات، الأرواح، العالم السفلي
Cultus = mind culture, civilization, gods worship عبادة الآلهة, as in cult.

Could be 'God Kings' as in ملك الآلهة ، خالق الآلهة , as in الإله الفرعوني آمون وعقيدته
Amon-Ra = Amun-cultus = Amun cult آمون رع، آمون الرب
عقيدة الآلهة الأموات

Randa Farhat Mar 2, 2013:
This has to do with الآلهة الأموات، الآلهة المومياوات . Better post this question in Latin-English section.

هى فلسفة ذات أصول فارسية و لكنها انتشرت فى أماكن عديدة منها شمال أفريقيا
disagree Randa Farhat : This is about the Pharoahs and their Family Tombs, the Dead Gods, but I am not aware of the correct/standard equivalent Arabic. Nothing to do with Manichaeism and Persia!// Reply: Taha, I said the QUESTION has nothing to do with Manichaeism.
