English term

metavolcano-sedimentary

English to Arabic Science Mining & Minerals / Gems geological properties of iron deposits
Same nightmare paragraph:
The iron-ore deposits of Liberia are Archaean-age iron formations of itabirite type and are associated with metavolcano-sedimentary formations overlying and tightly infolded into the predominantly gneissic basement complex.

These are metamorphic rocks, but are they of volcanic, sedimentary origin or both? or should I just stick to صخور ?متحولة

"meta" here indicates change and transformation, and it is used chemical names in this sense. we don't render this prefix invariably regardless of its context. meta-language in arabic is ميتالغة or ما بعد اللغة or ما وراء اللغة .metadata is ميتابيانات or بيانات فوقية. in cultural and technical terms, thge underlying meaning of "meta" is self-referential, i.e. language about/describing language or data about data. this is not the case with "metavolcanic". saying "ما بعد بركانية" could only, redundantly, suggest the temporal element, as good as "after-".
