Hello all,
I'm in trouble with a term in my text "chuck".
Internal or external line-up clamp is translated in the industry by "mandrin d'alignement interne" or "externe" (see here : http://www.pipemachine.fr/11-internal-2.html or here : http://books.google.nl/books?id=tgNa8UgQYtkC&pg=PA236&lpg=PA...
My problem is that I have some instructions for mounting/set-up, etc., to translate and I end up to a part with "chuck" which is also translated by "mandrins".
Here is an example: "Using the drive wheel to
lock the clamp into the pipe, the operator will manually center the chucks
and then continue forward until the chucks are inside."
Anyone have an idea how to translate "chuck" with accuracy but not by "mandrin" to make the text clear ?

: Peut serrer par l'intérieur ou par l'extérieur et reste assez général, en espérant qu'on ne parle pas par ailleurs des mâchoires du mandrin!

Je pense que 'chuck'='mandrin' est incontournable et que c'est dans 'line-up clamp'='mandrin d'alignement' que 'mandrin' peut être remplacé sans créer de confusion.

En supposant que le contexte est toujours celui d'une cintreuse : souris ou encore olive, mais souris est plus souvent utilisée.
