(main entrance) canopy

Does it look anything like this? (imagine it's concrete!)

http://www.sighet.ro/p_cultural.htm ("Copertina de la intrare" - you can enlarge the picture)

My first thought was "awning", but awnings are usually made of some kind of fabric/canvas, and the one you're talking about is concrete. Canopies can come in all shapes and sizes (and materials, including concrete apparently); here's a "main entrance canopy":

http://www.unionhospital.org/news_detail.asp?id=12

Here's another one:

"The main entrance canopy was designed with a low-rise arch and converging hanger rods to distinguish it from the other entryways."
http://www.moderntrade.com/edit3/1204mab.htm (the arched one that says "THE METRO" over it)

"Door canopies" on the front of a house are usually smaller:

They can also be supported by posts - e.g.

http://www.glassexpert.ro/copertine.php?idcat=16_89

And, finally, it also features in this rather useful-looking EN-RO architecture glossary:

canopy, n.
copertina; baldachin

Peer comment(s):

agree Elena Iercoşan : I've also found "awning", but it's mostly made of canvas. So "canopy" fits best!
