If documentation provided by the conservator or restorer is not passed along with the object then, despite our best efforts, we are back to square one. With museum objects documentation is dutifully placed into the file as part of the object’s history. If the piece goes into the marketplace however, this important information is considered a hindrance and is often discarded or reduced to a simple "restored" on the label.
