Orthophoto Map Production
The detailed scanned images of the aerial photography were used to create digital orthophotos using special software.

Digitization
In order to produce a new land use and land cover maps, the 1990/92 inventory line work was used as a starting point and modified as indicated by the photo interpreters.

The line work is being digitized on top of the new orthophoto maps. An additional step in the process is the digitization of new forest access roads and large buildings

What kind of base maps can I use for digitizing?

Two different types of maps are generally used. These maps are the U.S. Geological Survey 1:24,000 Topographic Maps and the Vermont 1:5,000 scale Orthophoto Base Maps.
