Yes. I meant "pager" but the proper word was eluding me. The "pager" was called (in Spain, at least), "el buscapersonas", and that was quickly shortened to "el busca"

This would make sense. In Spanish, a very common way of saying "beeper" is "buscapersona", so why not "abondo busca"?

The document dates from 2005, so it is not likely to be something that existed prior to the mobile telephone.

I think it is a sort of pager or message service. The document is a set of instructions for calling the company providing technical support, including several telephone/fax numbers and email addresses, and then this pager or message service (I think as a last resort).

Afraid there is a misunderstanding in the original: If instead of "abonado busca" they had written "buscador de abonados", then it makes sense, doesn't it?. Problem is, colloquially, "el busca" is taken to mean "el buscador".

I agree that usually "abonado" is "subscriber" in telecommunications; however, personally it sounds more natural to me to say "customer search" than "subscriber search."
