Become more proficient in the use of CAT tools/programs Dec 29, 2007

For starters, I intend to devote more time to learning new programs and/or becoming more proficient in CAT tools. Also, I plan to better market my services and expand my existing client base. Finally, make an effort to read more in my working languages.

My wishes to all for a very Happy, Healthy and Prosperous 2008!

Continue as a multi-task professional during 2008 Dec 29, 2007

Hi friends,
Professionally speaking, the year 2007 has been wonderful.
My workload has increased significantly (so did my savings...).
I’ve just finished the first year of a 3-year course to become a Specialized Proofreader (Spanish).
I've been working here in Argentina as senior PM for an important Language Consultancy Company, learning a lot about dealing with multiple language professionals.
On the other hand, I'm working at the same time as freelance translato

Hi friends,
Professionally speaking, the year 2007 has been wonderful.
On the other hand, I'm working at the same time as freelance translator for the US. This makes me feel happy, as it is very difficult to meet their requirements and deadlines…and they seem to be very satisfied with my collaboration.

My goal for the year to come is to launch my own personal website…I’m working on it.
And not to work on Sundays...

With a lot to learn during 2008, I hope to have the same energy to work and study hard.
This is for me the time to sow.

Wish you and your family enjoy a Happy New Year and thank you for being around.

Paola

Not really a New Year's resolution Dec 29, 2007

I have ongoing goals that I pursue all year, not New Year's Resolutions per se.

My main one is to improve the balance between agency work and direct clients by increasing the percentage of my work that is for direct clients.

Yoga and kayak Dec 29, 2007

- I would love to invest my free time to study Sanscrit ( top goal) and keep on with hatha yoga.
- I would also love to do kayak in Sauce Viejo ( Coronda River- Sauce Viejo- Santa Fe- Argentina).

The best for you all!

* My resolutions were not professional!

Hi Kalinka, it was my dream since...since I was 13. I still never did it, but...If you are REALLY interested, I can look for tickets: they are usually all sold until the end of March. And if you decide, welcome to Hungary in the end of 2007!
Regards, Liza

They're like taking a bath... Dec 30, 2007

Diana Arbiser wrote:

This is said with the utmost respect for my colleagues who actually do, but I do not believe in such a thing as "New Year's Resolutions". For me, they sound just like dust in the wind...

My father used to say they were like taking baths... The effects do not always last long, but frequent repetitions help!

I 'renew' my resolutions at least four times a year - New Year, the six weeks of Lent up to Easter, my birthday, which falls in the summer and is also a kind of New Year, and the four weeks of Advent up to Christmas as a dress rehearsal for New Year.

And I have not kept them to well this December, so I must give them a boost in January!

1: To reject jobs I do not have time to do within more or less normal working hours.
2: To take better backups.
3: To tidy up my workroom...

Have a great year in 2008 everyone!

Catch up with my paperwork Jan 6, 2008

I've been swamped lately and have neglected my paperwork, including some bills for small jobs. My New Year's resolution was to get my papers organized, and as I write these lines on January 6, I'm well on my way. I've filed away a lot of stuff, paid for all the little pending things that weren't urgent, and established a system for handling temporary papers before they get taken care of. I feel as if I'm on the way to a more stress-free office.

I made a New Year's resolution to stop smoking 30 years ago and haven't had a cigarette since, so I believe that the process does have some power that's worth trying to tap into.
