How does a distinctly ethical dimension appear in a literary work? In
exactly which features of a work does this ethical dimension, when such
there is, reside? And why should we be interested in moral evaluation
when reading works of narrative fiction, offering as they so often do an
opportunity to escape the burdens of reality, with morality often one
such burden? There are surely a variety of legitimate answers to these
questions, depending on the kind of literature one has in mind. My
concern here is with only one way of answering them, and in respect to
only one kind of literature. The Trial will provide my example. It shows us, I argue, something unexpected and largely overlooked about how
a literary narrative can achieve ethical significance and distill it into a
value— that is, a reason for ascribing a kind of worth to it that becomes
essential to our ability to complement its artistic success.

چگونه بُعدی آشکارا اخلاقی در اثری ادبی ظاهر می‌شود؟ دقیقا در کدام جنبه‌های اثر، این بُعد اخلاقی نمایان می‌شود؟ و چرا در هنگام خواندن کارهای داستانی تخیلی که به ما فرصت فرار از سختی‌های زندگی واقعی را می‌دهند، باید به این ارزیابی اخلاقی که اغلب بر آن سختی می‌افزاید، علاقه‌‌ای نشان دهیم؟ قطعا بسته به نوع ادبیات مدنظرمان، پاسخهای معقول متعددی به این پرسش‌ها وجود دارد. این مقاله تنها روی یک گونه از این پاسخ‌ها و فقط در ارتباط با نوع خاصی از ادبیات متمرکز است. «محاکمه» نمونه مورد بررسی من است. نشان خواهم داد که این اثر به ما چیزی غیرمنتظره نشان می‌دهد که تا حد وسیعی مورد غفلت قرار گرفته است: چگونه روایتی ادبی می‌تواند مفهومی اخلاقی بیابد و به آن ارزش ویژه‌ای دهد— به این معنا که به اثر نوعی ارزش می‌بخشد که اگر قصد داریم موفقیت هنری‌اش را کامل کنیم، ضروری است خود ما از آن بهره بگیریم.

Hi, This is Farshad from Iran, now living in Canada. I first studied dentistry and got a DDS. I then shifted to philosophy, got an MA in philosophy first in Iran and then another one at Simon Fraser University in Canada. However, throughout all these 25 years, as I have a passion for translation, I've translated many texts in medical, dental, philosophy, literature, and other fields. Since 2015, I have been a paid translation for Chess.com, the number one chess website in the world. I recently also translated an interdisciplinary work on Kafka's 'The Trial' for Khoob Translations, Tehran, Iran.
In my translation, I pay special attention to the context, as I think understanding and conveying 'meaning' from a language to another is only possible if we understand the context as much as we can. I believe my wide areas of education allow me to understand the context better.
I'm a responsible and punctual person. I'll be happy to work as a freelance translator in my fields of interest, in particular medical, dentistry, and humanities.
