I discovered that with iOS 16.3 I can let Apple's MT engine translate webpages, like this one.

I want to explore if this is also possible with Safari on macOS.

BTW: I found that NL as a target language is available too.

Must have missed the introduction:

The Turkish, Indonesian, Polish, Dutch and Thai languages were added to the app on June 22, 2022

Currently, the following languages are supported:

On the Mac Dec 18, 2022

Not so rosy on the Mac ...

Firstly, you have to add languages here:

1

In Safari, click on:

2

And be very disappointed that one of the most important and beautiful languages of the world, Dutch, isn't supported on the Mac.

And there is the Apple Translate app Dec 18, 2022

With a disappointing quality. I guess that you can run it on Macs with Apple Silicon. But why would you bother.

No priority Dec 19, 2022

Obviously machine translation has no priority for Apple.

With the gigantic amount of data that they collect, Apple could and should perform better with MT.

@Tim: are you listening?

I've posted this question in the Apple forums:

Although Apple has huge financial resources and large amounts of data collected via Siri, Apple's machine translation is really underwhelming, for example compared to the results of DeepL.

Moreover, I can't use my native language Dutch on macOS like I can on iOS.

How come?
