Depends. I have engineers, physicasns, consultants, IT people etc. in my network who find 90% of their jobs and projects there. For translators, probably not the best place.

ProZ is just as much a social medium as LinkedIn. And... drum roll...
I just landed another customer on here this morning!!!
That makes almost 90 euros of work off ProZ in just four months of paid membership. I think I might treat myself to a piece of chocolate.
It's also clear proof that the translation industry is alive and kicking. Take that, all you AI doommongers lol (-:

I've had a Facebook profile since it was just a thing for American university students, and I belong to two translator groups that only 'meet' there. Other than that I use it, in theory, to get back in touch with old friends, and to keep up with a few via their posts. I radically culled my friend list a few years ago, keeping only people I actually know and are in some way friends. I'd rather not use it at all, though, and if the two translator groups were to move elsewhere, I would close my acc... I also have a LinkedIn account, but it's woefully neglected. At some point I'll dive into it to see if it would be useful for my area, but I would be surprised if it were.

I think more than half of them are people I went to school or college with. I don't actually know them personally... we just sort of connected during the bloom period of Facebook when everybody jumped onto it and searched for every single person they knew or ever had contact with. I don't know how many people "follow" me, though. Yesterday I posted a poem and 10 people "liked" it. The six posts before that went entirely unnoticed or unliked by anyone.

My brain moves in mysterious ways. Despite all the bugs and other issues that keep popping up, I have all the patience in the world for Proz and none whatsoever for LinkedIn (except for the two groups I belong to) and even less for FB and IG…

I managed to get out of FB many years ago and wouldn't touch it with tweezers.
I'm on Proz and LinkedIn, period.
P.S.: Is Proz aware that Twitter does no longer exist? (see at the bottom of the Reply page)

I find content creation such a hassle, I see a ton of translators posting stories and videos doing their thing, but I simply can't see myself finding the time between meeting deadlines and taking care of my kids and house to do any of that. And I absolutely despise the fact that, if it weren't for loyal longtime clients, I'd have to be forced into some version of that.

I have a LinkedIn profile, but I wouldn't call that "social" media - it's supposed to be a professional networking tool.
On the other hand, it hasn't steered me to any new clients for a long while now.
As for all that other toxic garbage: forget it!
