About 10 years ago, a number of Hungarian agencies and translator associations created a memorandum of understanding (MOU) that quickly got the name "Hungarian covenant" (officially the Translation Cooperation Agreement) that explains what the translator associations and agencies consider standard practice w.r.t. terms of service.

Signatories of this MOU were not bound by it (i.e. it did not supersede any other agreements between them) but it helped explain to everyone involved what was generally expected of each other.

The MOU was eventually translated into English and became a point of discussion for a number of English-language translation associations.

A complaint that has been raised against the Hungarian document is that it appears to be an agency-centred document and that it doesn't create the impression of an equal partnership between translators and agencies.

In the mean time, the Hungarian MOU has also been updated after a second translator association joined its discussions. I have created a file that compares the 2013 version of the "Hungarian covenant" with the 2020 version of it. Not much has changed between the two versions. You can download the file
here.
