Spanish term

claudicando sin tocar plano con paresia en maniobras finas

Spanish to English Medical Medical (general) Neurology
Hi All,

Would appreciate some help with this term for US English.
It's taken from a neurology discharge report. Most of the report refers to the NIHSS Stroke Score, the patient has had a mild stroke.

"A la exploración NIHSS 3 a expensas de paresia en extremidades derechas claudicando levemente

With a slight limp without ? with partial paralysis (paresis) in fine motor skills.

Hola. Una claudicación es un síntoma donde aparece cojera con dolor. Aquí quiere decir que, aunque el dolor mejoró, aún no mejoró lo suficiente como para caminar sin cojera.

drift but doesn't hit bed with fine motor skills impairment

Claudicación is expressed in the NIHSS as drift; when you tell the patient to lift an arm, for example, the arm does not stay in place (claudica; cae; drifts), and it shows drift until it touches the bed ("el plano") or it may hold without fully falling (does not hit the bed).

As for paresia (mild-moderate weakness) en maniobras finas, I feel "fine motor skills impairement" (or mild-moderate fine motor...?) might work here.

Thanks Chema, most helpful as ever (and sorry half the question got eaten along the way!)
Peer comment(s):

agree José Huarancca : I would write "...without hitting bed..." but it's a good translation.

Thanks. "Drift, doesn't hit bed" is what the original NIHSS states actually: https://www.mdcalc.com/nih-stroke-scale-score-nihss
agree Robert Carter : Totally unintuitive to me as a layman, but perfectly clear now you've explained it.

Thanks José - I had Spanish and English copies of the NIHSS open, but didn't think to look for "claudic*" [doh!] - working too late!
