Portuguese term
queijada
Portuguese to English
Other
Cooking / Culinary
This is the name that we give to small pastry cakes filled with cheese or a sweet filling such as orange, eggs, or some other sweet pudding type of filling. Essentially they look like miniature pies. I'm wondering if there's a better UK english term than miniature pie.

tartlet
If they’re savory (salgado,) I would say tartlet, or cheese tartlet to be more specific.

Mince pies, on the other hand, are sweet, and don’t contain cheese. As the Wikipedia entry says, they are made with fresh and dried fruit, spices, nuts, etc. So if the queijada is sweet, you could say mince pie, as long as it contained the ingredients of mince pie.

The American cheesecake is not really a cake, it is more like a tart.

: The filling at least is certainly very similar to a baked cheesecake
