Morde fronha As Korean has 7 levels of politeness, I am sure Brazilian (and others) have the equivalent in levels of "rudeness". I think the important issue here is the "grade" morde-fronhas has! In fact "pillow biter" sounds rather poetic and "emo" like "coitadinho" which in context could be considered offensive or inoffensive! I would be interested as a non Pt native speaker to hear native Pt speakers opinions.

Or you could just go for good old fashioned.. "Nancy boy" It really depends on the ages of the protagonists and the circumstances in which the event occurred. Taking into account that the "offended" party may really be a "morde fronha" and takes offence at the drop of a hat, and whinges that their "feelings have been hurt" when criticised in a banterly manner. There are always two sides to the story IMHP :-)

A big girl's blouse (In my neck of the woods) "A big girls blouse", is the good natured banter to rag a colleague who exhibits the following characteristics.

A male displaying percieved feminine characteristics through actions which cause his peers to think less of him.Being a big girls blouse is much worse than being just a girls blouse, thus it's highly insulting nature.Also used to force a man to do something they fear through peer pressure.

Thanks, Mark. As this is an HR/workplace harassment issue, I think it is important that the translation convey the exact level of offense.

sissy

I opt for this or something similar because although "morde-fronha" means gay the idea here is that the speaker is suggesting he's too "chicken" (scared) to do something. Sissy works because it means both "chicken" and "gay". As for making it less offensive IMO we have to reflect the intention of the original writer as closely as possible and if the term used is offensive then why should it be less so in translation?
