português term

engrenagem

português para inglês Arte/Literatura Poesia e literatura Esoterismo e simbolismo
IMPORTANT: I have already tried "gear" and "gearing system" (see example below) but I think the text needs something more subjective, poetic, and "symbolic".

Texto original:

"O ventre, como área de choque, sempre recebeu o primeiro impacto de qualquer alteração na dinâmica habitual do funcionamento do meu corpo. Os ovários, nessa perspectiva, foram o convite para o desvendar das terras do ventre. Sua sofisticada *engrenagem* se comprometia a cada ciclo menstrual pela presença do tecido endometrial, sujeito a perda das suas funções diante do Mar Vermelho de sangue."

Texto traduzido:

"In the same fashion, my ovaries have signaled me with an invitation to discover the territory of the womb. As each menstrual cycle arrived, the ovaries' sophisticated *gearing system* was compromised on account of the presence of endometrial tissue. In addition, it was subject to failure due to the Red Sea of blood."

Mar 24, 2009 23:20: Michael Powers (PhD) changed "Edited KOG entry" from "<a href="/profile/1023377">Gustavo Ban's</a> old entry - "engrenagem"" to ""mechanism""

Note from asker:
Hi, Beta! Unfortunately, this suggestion sounds a bit too formal for the style of the text. It's more on the symbolic level, you know. I chose "mechanism", which is not so symbolic but it keeps the idea simple and straightforward. Thanks anyway! Ban
