Portuguese term

Laboratório de Análises

Portuguese to English Science Science (general)
I was initially going with "Clinical Laboratory", but this is possibly more specific to medical analysis, whereas the Portuguese term might apply to a lab where, e.g., water is tested for suitability for consumption, etc. Would this also be a clinical lab in English?

I need a general term which encompasses the various kinds of lab this term can refer to.

Any thoughts much appreciated!

A testing lab tests against specific standards; a clinical lab handles biologicals. "Analysis lab" rarely stands alone; it is premodified by the type of analysis. I agree that "analises" is redundant in English unless needed to qualify the type of analysi

(Specific area: Chemical/Geospacial/Clinical) Analysis Laboratory

Solomon,
In my opinion, there is no general phrase, term or expression encompassing all labs.
In Portuguese, "laboratório de análises" does not really encompass all labs. In fact, you'd infer that this would be a clinical lab if you were talking about a CBC count, for example, but the correct name in that language would be "Laboratório de Análises Clínicas". If you were analysing water, it'd be "laboratório de análise de águas e efluentes" or sthg of the sort, etc.etc.. So, if the subject is water analysis/assessment in English, you'd have to say "Water analysis laboratory", "Water-Quality Assessment (Laboratory)", or sthg like that. ...Or, according to the area, "chemical analysis laboratory", "biochemical analysis laboratory", "geospacial analysis laboratory". There are tons of examples on the the www to corroborate this.
Hope this is helpful!

How about "assessment lab"?
Note from asker:
Problem is, it's not just one lab; we're talking about a software application aimed at "laboratórios de análises" as a group, so I can't specify an area like you suggest. I need an English term which covers (roughly!) the same spectrum that the Portuguese term covers. For instance, a water testing laboratory would be included, as might a clinical laboratory, but a photographic laboratory or computer laboratory wouldn't.

laboratory

If you need a very broad and general term just use laboratory as it already implies that testing or analysis of some sort will be conducted.
Definition in Websters - (noun)
1. a building, part of a building, or other place equipped to conduct scientific experiments, tests, investigations, etc., or to manufacture chemicals, medicines, or the like.
2. any place, situation, set of conditions, or the like, conducive to experimentation, investigation, observation, etc.; anything suggestive of a scientific laboratory.

Remember that Portuguese is a much more elaborate language than English. We like to use short simple expressions but in Portuguese they like to add adjectives that are not necessarily needed in English.
