I was asked to translate a .pdf file of a brochure so that the translated file is ready to be published into brochure.
Please tell me what software I should use to accomplish this.

Ask for the original file or deliver unformatted Dec 4, 2005

DTP is for DTP professionals.

Alternatively, the client can provide you with the original file they produced the PDF from, and if you have the appropriate application (and the expertise to use it), you can translate in that application and subsequent re-formatting is minimized.

But providing a PDF and asking for a translation ready for printing is a no-no.

Article Dec 4, 2005

Hi Jenny,
Our fellow moderator Natalia has written an article on how to handle PDFs, including the restrictions involved. Should make interesting reading for you.

Best regards,
Ralf

Hi Ralf,
I know a thing or two about PDFs and DTP but before giving advice to Jenny I wanted to see what Natalya says in her article. But the link you provided is a dead end. What I got is a message: "You are looking for an article which either does not exist or which you are not allowed to see."
Best regards,
Alex

Yes, Natalie's article is very interesting as a general source, and should be higly recommended, but of limited practical value to a translator. I tried to sum up my own experince in an article which I submitted for approval as it is too long for this forum.
Thank you,
Alex
