Anyone else got an unsolicited e-mail from Alchemy? دھاگا پوسٹ کرنے والے: Christel Zipfel

Not sure where I had to post this one...:-)
I just got an e-mail from Alchemy with an invitation to attend a Webinar.
I never had any contacts or relations with this company but I recall there was a publicity campaign on ProZ just until some days ago (don't see it anymore).
I wonder where they got my e-mail-adress from and how they know I am a translator.
Am I the only one to find this very bewildering?

Same here, I suppose they got my information from my profile page, or maybe from some other list(s) where I am a member. | | | savaria (X) ہنگری Local time: 10:36 ہنگیریائیسےانگریزی + ... Letter from Alchemy | Sep 5, 2008 |
I get such letters every day.Sometimes even two or three.Luckily enough,I have a very effective, what is more, free built-in spam filter in Gmail.
It has become as usual as receiving other spam letters about lottery, medicines and so on. | | | I don't complain about random spam | Sep 5, 2008 |

This was a targeted mail for translators. I dont't have my e-mail-address displayed in my profile as Lori says, but it could well have been taken from some other translator list where it is. I only thought there could be some relation between the recent publicity campaign on this site and their e-mail to me. But it could as well be a strange coincidence and maybe I am too suspicious... | |

There are thousands of hits searching Google with your first and last name. Many of them clearly identify you as a translator, ans some carry your email address from an italian provider.

and I hardly ever get any spam or junk (just once a week or so).
Thank you Natalie for your advice! I knew this box was checked (but didn't remember where it was). Anyway, this is the very first time I got a translation related publicity and the mail didn't come through ProZ. So the first thing that came to my mind was whether ProZ in this case would communicate our mail addresses to those companies.
All I wanted is to make sure they will not and never have.
Besides that, there are of course many other possibilities, like gfe says, to find out that I am a translator. Maybe I should write less in ProZ forums and just stop answering questions...:-) | | | خاص طور پر اس فورم کےلئے کسی موڈریٹر کی خدمات حاصل نہیں کی گئی۔ To report site rules violations or get help, please contact site staff » Anyone else got an unsolicited e-mail from Alchemy?
