On the internet the hostname of a site corresponds to its IP address, eg hotmail.com translates to 64.4.44.7. To get the IP of a hostname, the simplest way to do it is to ping the hostname. So if the sites called www.somesite.com, you open a dos prompt (start menu>run, and type:command.com) and type ping somesite.com. If this doesn\'t work then you have to go to internic.net, and search on the whois database for the hostname. So go to internic, click on the whois database button, and type in www.somesite.com or whatever it is. If its not there try ripe.com, or arin.net. On the other hand if you know a nameservers address, then you can do a manual whois. To do this type whois at the dos prompt.If it doesn\'t work then then try whois --help. 1. Go to Start/Programs/Accessories/Command Interpreter(my translation from Swedish)and you get the phony DOS page

2. Type \'ipconfig\'. Your own IP data will be shown.

3. Type \'ping proz.com and you\'ll get the IP data of Proz.com
