OmegaT and Anaphraseus are free as in freedom. As for bugs, just browse forums here and in other places to see that overpriced SDL Trados raises much more issues than OmegaT.

there's no such thing a free lunch indeed. you have to learn (any of) it, in order to use it properly. but that also applies to commercial cats.

Most CAT software is free to use in full functions during the trial/demo promotion period (e.g. 1-2 months). You can search for famous ones: Transit, SDLX, WordFast, Across ... etc.

Speaking of bugs, some of the leading commercial CAT systems are actually ful of them as well.
MemoQ also has an (almost) free deal with an old version, AFAIR.
