Deja Vu X handles project with 866 files

In a recent posting about OpenOffice compatibility with CAT tools, I replied that Deja Vu X could handle OO files well and could import an *almost* unlimited number of such files into a DVX project.
One member expressed doubt over this so just for the record I did a test.
I imported 768 html (3 whole we sites), 1 Framework file (mif), 1 TTX, 7 OpenOffice, 40 Excel and 49 Word files into one project, 865 files in all.

The files can then be viewed, sorted, filtered and translated in the project seamlessly as if they were one file. Project size 376 MB. It would thus appear that the *number" of files is indeed *unlimited* up to the 2 GB project size limitation determined by MS Access.
I wonder whether any other CAT tool can do this?

SDL Trados Glue Nov 18, 2006

There is a tool named SDL Trados Glue. It may be a good tool in the future, but not now. In the help file it says:

Note that the SDL Trados Glue is not part of the official SDLX or SDL Trados product offering and is not officially covered by SDL Trados support. Use at your own risk.

With DVX, you can just drag a whole folder into the project, check "Include sub-folders" and the file format, *.html say, and all html files willl then be imported and exported with the folder tree structure retained. Ideal for web sites with hundreds of different files in different sub-folders.

I routinely work on projects with more than 1000 files in OmegaT:
Manual,
Online Help (including complete tree structure with images),
HTML Help Compiler files,
Resources.

There's no 2 GB limit.

OmegaT is certainly a viable option for translators especially as it is free but as far as I can see, once you have imported the 1000 files, you still only work on one file at a time and cannot view, sort, filter or translate them seamlessly as if they were one file as you can in DVX. And if you had 1000 Word or Excel files say, you would presumably have to open and save each file in OpenOffice before importing.

I won't comment on what you can do (or not) in DVX, I don't use it.
Handling multiple files in OmegaT is transparent enough for me:
"concordance" search works globally, "go to next untranslated segment" works whether the next untranslated segment is in the same file or not, matches are offered on a global basis, and propagation of identical segments is applied to all files in the project instantaneously.

There's no sort, the order is the same one as the tree structure of your source documents.

And if you had 1000 Word or Excel files say, you would presumably have to open and save each file in OpenOffice before importing.

Yes, although there are ways to do that in batch (even without launching OpenOffice), i.e., without manually opening and saving each file.
All the large (i.e., more than 50 files) projects I had were always mostly online help (generally HTML).

If you are a happy camper with OmegaT, why change? If I had a 1000 html file project to do, I'd no doubt rather use OmegaT than SDL/Trados with its dubious glue or Heartsome with its ability to see only one segment at a time. But I'd certainly be lost without DVX's ability to view, filter and sort individual files or all files, not to mention its unique portions AutoAssemble feature of course.
