I'm planning to do a largish Word document in SDLX (version irrelevant).

The Word document has an enormous amount of track changes, which means that they have to be accepted unless you want to do more format painting than Leonardo da Vinci.

However, the "Accept track changes" button is greyed out, yet the file does not seem to be protected in any way.

This has never happened to me before. Anyone else ever seen this?

The agency is somewhat casual about my request for the customer to accept the track changes: "the customer just says "translate it as it stands."

Grateful for any suggested workarounds.

Save as a new file? Mar 15, 2007

Hi Chris --

I haven't run across this issue before, but have you tried saving the document with a new name (and/or possibly as an *.rtf) to see if the option is then not grayed out?

Good luck!

Brie

Hi Brie Mar 15, 2007

Thanks for the suggestion!

Yes, I tried that. I resaved it using a variety of names, the angrier I got with it.

Also as an rtf, but with no joy. If I remember correctly, SDLX crunches .doc files into rtf format anyway before converting them into its working .itd format.

Let's see if there's anyone else who's been down this dirt track (excuse the pun).

If I really end up "stuck between a rock and a hard place", I'll chuck it all into txt then save via rtf into Word. SDLX can handle that.

Then I'll have to regenerate the TOC - it's big enough.

After that, I'll send it to them to get a heads up before I start. If they don't like the format they'll just have to go shopping elsewhere.

Cheers
Chris

Hmmmm ... Mar 15, 2007

I can just imagine the variety of names : )

Given the lack of further third-party input, I'll try again:

How about creating a new document and copying and pasting your text into it?

I'm intrigued .... And I'd be happy to play around with it myself if you'd like to e-mail it to me.

Cheers--

Brie

Yeah. I thought about that - but the track changes would be carried across, right?

Wrong! They weren't!

O.K. - the format of the company's stationery doesn't copy across, but the TOC and the integrity of all the various tables and other goop does!

I think I know where to go from here!

Thanks Brie, and I owe you one.

Cheers xxx
