The question of sanctions against people for various offenses has been mentioned recently, mainly in connection with KudoZ, but some apply to other fields too.

The top sanction is expulsion from ProZ for the most serious offenses of all kinds, This can be permanent or for a specified period, after which the offender can re-apply (some do, some don't).
In KudoZ, I suppose people can be banned from using KudoZ altogether, but I'm not sure about this.
There is a sanction of loss of answering rights, and presumably one of loss of asking rights.
There is also a sanction of loss of "ask asker/discuss" rights. In the change from "Ask asker" into several fields including "discuss", this sanction has been carried over from one to the other, with no clear explanation as to why this is being done.
I presume a ban on using forums can also be applied, I'm not sure about this.
People have sometimes lost rights without being notified why. This should never happen.
KudoZ sanctions seem to be for an indefinite period. I think there should always be a specified term, often quite a short one. For example, in comments to an asker, there is a difference between calling him a complete idiot and simply quoting rule 2.1, which is apparently an offense under rule 3.7. The latter case would not seem to me to merit any sanction of more than a week.
A properly organized and genuine appeals system also seems necessary, so that people do not feel they are being punished arbitrarily by one particular moderator or staff member without possibility of redress.
I am not myself suggesting answers to all these questions, but I think there should be more openness, and that it is a subject worth discussing.

Site moderators work closely and diligently with staff to ensure the observance of site rules, in order to maintain a secure and productive workplace for the community as a whole. Users are notified of restrictions on their use of the site which result from rules violations.
