When "peer comments" etc. are hidden because of rule violation, it would be more productive IMO if only the actual comment were removed, and the agree/neutral/disagree remained visible.

I agree with that Apr 12, 2010

I actually agree with this: the agree/disagree should still be in place.

Thanks,

Eva

The rating and the comment together form the peer comment, as a whole unit Apr 12, 2010

Hello Cilian,

Thanks for the suggestion. I just wanted to point out that a peer comment is composed of a rating (agree/disagree/neutral) and a comment. The comment has to back the rating with a linguistic reason.

The rating and the comment together form the peer comment, as a whole unit. Please note that peer comments must be based on linguistic considerations and said considerations must be provided in case of disagree or neutral comments.

Rating without a comment? Apr 12, 2010

"A rating without a comment to back it up would not only be of little help, but it would be against KudoZ peer commenting rule #5."

Then it looks like the vast majority of ratings are in violation because they contain no comment, just the rating.

Do you care to comment on that?

Thanks, Alejandro, but... Apr 12, 2010

Well, maybe a solution would be to decouple them. Can't be that difficult.

Well, it's possible to agree without commenting.

But that's all beside my point. I just feel the recent increase in moderator intervention has distorted the scoring system and is not doing anything in the way of helping askers. On the contrary.

I would keep things as they are Apr 12, 2010

I think there are rare instances where agree comments are removed. I can imagine, for instance, ironical agrees being removed. Disagree comments are removed when they are not of a linguistic nature. And if the disagree was given based on reasons other than linguistic, why should the disagree stay after the comment violating the rules is deleted? As to the neutral grades, they become meaningless after the comments are removed.

Only "Neutral" or "Disagree" peer comments require comments Apr 12, 2010

Hello Henry, Cilian,

Thanks for your replies. My first comment was not fully accurate. I have now edited it to reflect the description of peer comments on http://www.proz.com/faq/4876#4876 .

Only "Neutral" and "Disagree" peer comments require comments, "Agree" comment do not.

Best regards,
Alejandro

Allowing peers to re-grade again Apr 12, 2010

I agree that when the non-appropriate comment has been removed, the rating has to go too. However, the peer should be given another chance of rating the same question. AFAIK, once a comment has been removed, the peer is no longer allowed to rate that particular question.

Putting back the option of rating for that question (allowing the peer to re-grade) could be a solution.

Hi Mihai,

Maybe they're rare in your language pairs; they're all too frequent in mine.

That's great.

Now, have you a comment to make on my posting?

Thanks

Thanks Monika for your constructive suggestion. Either sth. like that, or the comment is only temporarily hidden and the poster given the chance to edit it to within the rulez.
