Feature more Pros in the front page دھاگا پوسٹ کرنے والے: BelkisDV

I've made this suggestion before. The entire left hand side and the bottom of the main page are empty. Why not feature more pros there, alternate between language combinations, put 3-5 or maybe more featured pros in a rotating fashion.
This will at least increase our visibility.
To the pros: make your tagline desirable in order to be contacted. Things like "reliable, quality, prompt, affordable" IMO don't sell your services. Your academic background does.

Belkis's suggestion is reasonable, but I cannot imagine someone deciding to work with me because of my photo! As to my tag line, I "invented" it when I was primarily editing for academics, so it isn't very "telling," and I will think about changing it, but I still believe that no one who might hire me is ever going to see it. ▲ Collapse | | | BelkisDV امریکہ Local time: 19:32 انگریزیسےاسپینی + ... Patricia,
If you had a picture of yourself or your country's flag instead of that of a dog that may change the whole thing for you.
Featuring more pros is for visibility purposes, so it's not silly, it's like the Yellow Pages, whoever has the most ads is likely to get the job.

I have no problem with the single pro shown, but IMO one can have a new pro every 5 minutes, or even every minute. That said, I have seen some repetitions in the last couple of weeks -- are there that few pros available for showing?

I tend to agree with Patricia that being featured on the home page is not really of much use. I've been featured on Sundays and at midnight and it's not likely that many clients would be "looking" at that time! | | | BelkisDV امریکہ Local time: 19:32 انگریزیسےاسپینی + ... TOPIC STARTER

Not everyone is on the same time zone.

No, seriously: I'm not sure displaying more translators in the suggested places will result in more visibility for the translators.
In order to see the free space you mention, the user has to scroll down (at least with my monitor size/settings). At the bottom half of the page is stuff that is only of interest to translators. Why would an outsourcer scroll down to take a look at it when everything he/she needs is in the menu bar on top of the page? Even I don't scroll down usually al... Why would an outsourcer scroll down to take a look at it when everything he/she needs is in the menu bar on top of the page? Even I don't scroll down usually although I'm a translator. ..
Unless the picture of a translator is displayed prominently, it will go unnoticed. Also, the more pictures of translators there are, the less attention they each will get. Adding more pictures in different places on the page will add to the clutter and make it look less organized and professional.
Besides, the top position would always be the most attractive one. Imagine what would happen if some translators would always be placed at the bottom, never at the top...
I'd rather be placed less frequently at the top position, than every two weeks at the bottom of the page. Having positions with different degrees of attractiveness suggests - at least subliminally - some sort of ranking... Why is this translator displayed on top, the others at the bottom? Aren't they as good?
And finally, I too doubt the effectiveness of the featured translator as a marketing tool for that translator, for all the reasons mentioned above.
I think it's rather an effective tool for Proz.com since it makes the site more personal and shows that there are real people involved.
The function has been compared to the Yellow Pages. Not really. If I use the Yellow Pages, I expect to see all providers of the specific service I'm looking for and then I pick the one I think best (or rather, I call them up to ask for their conditions, references, etc.). I don't go for the most prominent, largest, most colorful adds, but look at everything. The ability to compare and select is very important. And for that, as an outsourcer, I'd go to the directory. ▲ Collapse

If ProZ is selling itself as the translators workplace (translators, not translator's, BIG difference), then why feature only one person at a time.
Not to mention that the most uncommon language combinations are never featured....or have you noticed?
That is unfair to those people who have paid the fee to be a part of the translators workplace.

I have a better idea for the left hand side of the main page. They could sell it for ads, like the google ads, or agencies ads, which would bring more money which in turn could make the price of platinum membership cheaper. | | | BelkisDV امریکہ Local time: 19:32 انگریزیسےاسپینی + ... Do you really believe THAT is going to happen also? ProZ is making a bundle selling TRADOS and other CAT tools. Now the premium job posters have to pay anything between $1,750 and 20,000 in order to be placed in the premium category (if I understood correctly from the Press Release link about PRoZ in another thread).

Our current research into translation management and workflow systems has shown us that software suppliers are starting to pay attention to this problem. Meanwhile, to grease the wheels of language commerce and open up its database of translators, ex-Tradosian Mike Kidd at Proz launched a hosted service to match demand to supply. Buyers will pay US$1,750-20,000 per year to source translators based on language, specialization, price, location, use of tools, etc. Once they specify the criteria, Proz for Enterprise buying managers can send requests only to the translators who match the job requirements rather than having their posts lost among thousands of offers.
Our own membership was going to increase for the first time in 6 years, so I don't think bringing in more ads is going to help in that area.
Cheers!
