Hello,
My company is soon going to hire some in-house translators, but before we do that, we want to create a translation memory of a fairly large number of source and target files from work we've had done in the past.
I'm the IT guy, and I know what I'd like from an IT perspective, but I want expert advice from the pros here on what works well for translators. This kind of assignment is new to me.

If I can get a robust open source program, and one that can be server-based, that would be ideal.
Recommendations and direct links to software repositories or vendor sites would be appreciated.

Hi JamesDX - full disclosure, I am not a professional translator, and an employee of ProZ.com.
That said, there are a variety of alignment options available to you. Most translation memory systems (SDL, Wordfast, memoQ, Atril) offer a form of alignment within their tool set. SDL Trados is called WinAlign and comes standard with new licenses.

There are also a few options that are independent of translation memory systems.
Terminotix AlignFactory is one - http://terminotix.com/index.asp?name=AlignFactory&content=item&brand=1&item=4&lang=en
KCSL - http://www.kcsl.ca/ is another one
There are also a few free alignment tools, but I am not sure if they offer as valuable a service.
Good luck with your project!
