Which tool is best for translation of software strings?
Why? | | | lbone چین Local time: 18:51 چینیسےانگریزی + ... All major CAT tools are similiar to each other | Jun 9, 2012 |
Using a CAT tool is really helpful in terms of translating software strings.
I have been used to Trados' TagEditor, but I believe other major tools, Trados, Deja Vu, Across, Idiom, are as good for this purpose.
From a former software developer's point of view, I personally do not recommend dedicated software localization tools such as Alchemy Catalyst. They behave more like toys than professional tools.

to translate software strings can use POEditor because it is web-based, fast, powerful and collaborative. you go to the website http://poeditor.com/ for a quick skim of the features it has to offer for a fast localization process. | | | esperantisto Local time: 13:51 رکن (2006) روسیسےانگریزی + ... I use OmegaT for this kind of job. | |

We do not start translating right-to-left languages in any near future, as that would require major software changes. ▲ Collapse | | | Not all tools are equal | Nov 8, 2012 |

I would advise against using Across, at least if you want to keep your translators happy. It isn't a proper modern CAT tool from a translator's perspective, it's a lot slower to work in compared to the other options in your list. Across is free, but any professional software translator should own a better CAT tool.

This has been my experience, as well. I don't think there's enough differences between string translation and other types of translation to warrant a whole different line of CAT software (at least nowadays, when the generic CAT tools are full of all kinds of features). | | | To report site rules violations or get help, contact a site moderator: You can also contact site staff by submitting a support request » Best tool for string translation CafeTran Espresso | You've never met a CAT tool this clever!
