Certified translation from a scanned copy

It's about a university degree...

I need a certified translator to translate my university degree and its homologation from a scanned copy of it. Does she need the original ones or can she do it with their scanned copies?

Please help me!

The rules are not the same everywhere. Normally, just the copy is required.

The meaning of "certified" is not internationally agreed upon. Sometimes a "certified translation" means one that is accompanied by a certificate filled out and signed by the translator stating the translation is accurate to the best of their knowledge; sometimes it just means that the translator is certified by a respected organization of some kind.

You should ask for specific requirements from whoever it is that is requesting the translation.

It depends which organisation wants the translation, but the process can go as per the following as a basis.

You need to get the scanned copy certified by a justice of the peace (depending which state/country you are in) or the police will certify the copy (depending which country/state you are in). Then send the signed scanned copy with the wet signature/s to the translator (by post or in person). There should be a stamp and number so the certified copy can be identified.

Once translated the translator can sign and date the translation and state their authorisation number. The translator can write something like this on the translation:

I certify that this translation is accurate to the best of my knowledge based on the certified copy XXX (copy no.) signed by XXX (the JP) on XXX (the date). Then sign and date the statement, stating their authorisation number, qualification or the like. ▲ Collapse

I attach copies to every translation and state in the wording of my certification whether I worked only from the attached copy or had the original document available. The recipient then has the option of providing the original (or a certified copy thereof for comparison) when the translation is submitted - I no longer worry about it. The copy is, of course, bound with the translation and marked in a way that makes alteration or substitution difficult for most persons.
