Microsoft glossaries gone?

Dear Prozians,

The glossaries (formerly available from ftp://ftp.microsoft.com/developr/msdn/newup/Glossary/) are no more accessible via ftp from May 1st, 2005.

Is there a known alternative?
I was looking mainly for Excel/Access German>French.

Hello,

tried the link and all glossaries are there.

Try it again, maybe with a ftp client software if IExplorer doesn't work

Dear DSC,

Thank you very much for trying. Nevertheless I cannot acceed the glossaries: "The system cannot find the file specified". As nobody else commented I suppose that I am the only one experiencing this problem.

Could you please paste the URL you are using to acceed the MS glossaries and the software you are using? Thank you in advance.

The link might be case sensitive. Try using ftp://ftp.microsoft.com/developr/MSDN/NewUp/Glossary/. If that doesn't work try entering ftp://ftp.microsoft.com/developr/ and double-click on MSDN, NewUp and Glossary.

I am afraid Juan is right, they must have taken them offline.

I have just tried ftp://ftp.microsoft.com/developr/MSDN/NewUp/Glossary/ and all parent directories both with IE and WSFTP and it does not work. WSFTP says Can't... See more

I also tried http://www.microsoft.com/resources/glossary/default.mspx but I could not find multilanguage glossaries there.

This might be quite a problem for future sw localization!

Microsoft posted a warning in January stating that glossaries wouldbe moved to MSDN in May.


Is there a known alternative?


Subscribe to MSDN to get the glossaries on CD. Check

Hi! you should enable passive ftp in your browser settings, then you can access the glossaries. In your browser IE 6.0 it is inthe menu tools->internet options, mark the suitable option box to activate pasisve ftp service via browser.
